The town is built around its Venetian harbour and old castle, and the coastal road running west through Karaoğlanoğlu, Alsancak and Lapta is where much of the long-term rental stock sits. Prices ease the further you go from the centre, while sea views become more common rather than less.

Girne American University draws a steady international student population, so shared flats and single rooms turn over quickly here — particularly at the start of each academic term. Families and longer-stay residents tend to look inland towards Ozanköy, Bellapais and Çatalköy, where houses come with gardens and the hillside stays cooler in summer.

Getting around is easiest by car; the coastal road is the spine of the whole district. If you plan to live without one, staying within walking distance of the centre or on a dolmuş route matters more than the size of the flat.
